Greenville agency takes home national Silver ADDY for Greenville Humane Society spot and Communicator Awards Gold for Clemson University campaign

GREENVILLE, S.C., – June 9, 2009 – June is proving to be a rewarding month for Erwin-Penland (EP), one of the largest advertising and marketing firms in the Southeast and a division of Interpublic Group’s Hill, Holliday. In addition to the Gold Effie Award announced last week for Verizon Wireless’ How Sweet the Sound initiative, EP received an American Advertising Federation national Silver ADDY Award (www.aaf.org) for its humorous television advertising on behalf of the Greenville Humane Society. EP also learned last week that it won a Gold Award of Excellence from the International Academy of Visual Arts’ Communicator Awards for an anti-drinking campaign created for Clemson University (www.communicatorawards.com).

“To receive three prestigious national awards in the space of six days is extraordinary – and a milestone in the growth of this agency,” comments Erwin-Penland President, Joe Erwin. “In addition to the obvious honor of winning, we’re proud that we’ve been able to work with these amazing clients to create breakthrough marketing on their behalf. While EP may have won these awards, they really did also go to Verizon Wireless, Clemson University and the Greenville Humane Society.”

“The Talk,” TV ad [view online at http://www.erwinpenland.com/work/campaign_details/136] created for the Greenville Humane Society, promoted the fundraiser Sips for Snips and raised awareness, through humor, of the need to spay or neuter pets. It earned a national Silver ADDY award in the public service category. In addition to Erwin-Penland’s work on the spot, it is important to note that at EP’s request, the production company, pet trainer, talent, editor and sound team donated their time to the cause as well.

“The Other You” [view online at http://www.erwinpenland.com/work/campaign_details/129], an integrated communications campaign created for Clemson University, showed the dangers of college binge-drinking and how to avoid becoming “The Other You” in a series of print/newspaper ads and TV and radio spots. It earned a Communicator Gold Award of Excellence for integrated communications in the not-for-profit category.

“You know, it’s a bit of an awards trifecta for Erwin-Penland,” said Erwin. “But what’s really rewarding is that it’s for such a diversity of work – from TV and radio to fully integrated grassroots campaigns – and for not one, not two, but three of our clients. These awards demonstrate the quality of our work for both our largest clients and our local community partners,” he concludes.
