The Greenville Drive Named Finalist in National Sports Forum Achievement Awards

December 30, 2008

GREENVILLE, S.C., Dec. 30 2008 – The Drive, Greenville’s Red Sox Single A affiliate baseball team, announced today that they are among the finalists for an ADchievement Award from the 2009 National Sports Forum in two separate categories – Best Print and Best Radio. The Drive is the only Minor League organization to be named a finalist in the three year history of these awards. They worked with IPG advertising agency, Erwin-Penland, of Greenville, S.C., on both campaigns.

The Best Radio nomination is for The Drive’s “Chatter Guy” campaign. The campaign, which ran this past summer, features the Drive’s most fanatic fan, Chatter Guy, and highlights his passion, devotion and obsession with all that is Drive baseball. His manic love of the game manifests itself in baseball chatter, even in his everyday life. The other finalists in the Best Radio category are from the Memphis Grizzlies, Phoenix Coyotes, San Francisco 49ers and Turner Sports.

The Best Print nomination is for the Holiday Drive campaign currently in circulation. The series’ creative approach plays off of the famous holiday movie, A Christmas Story, in an effort to sell season tickets and Greenville Drive merchandise as holiday gifts. The other finalists in this category are the Big Ten Network, the Houston Texans, the Milwaukee Brewers, NFL PLAYERS, Oakland A’s and Red Bull New York.

“The Greenville Drive and our long term partner, Erwin-Penland, are both true believers in building a brand and constantly look for creative ways to get our team’s message out to the fans,” said Craig Brown, president and co-owner of the Greenville Drive. “The Chatter Guy and Holiday Drive campaigns are perfect examples of how a strategic partnership can provide a long lasting investment in a brand.”

The finalists in each category will be on display at the National Sports Forum ADchievement Award Finalist Showcase session at the 2009 National Sports Forum in Greater Phoenix on Monday, January 26, 2009. Forum attendees will cast their ballots to determine the winners in each category.
