Firm Achieves its First Best of Show Win
GREENVILLE, S.C. – March 28, 2006 – Erwin-Penland continued its ascent up the ADDY award ladder as it took home the Third District’s overall Best of Show award and the Best of Show in the print category for Milliken & Co.’s FXC campaign. In addition, EP also took home a Mosaic ADDY for the pro bono seat cover designed for the Greenville Transit Authority honoring the late civil rights leader Rosa Parks. The agency’s other recognitions included six gold and one silver to round out the firm’s district ADDY success.
The ADDY® Awards Competition is a three-tiered national competition conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF). Bringing in over 60,000 local entries last year, the ADDY® Awards Competition is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition for creative excellence. Each year the competition begins at the local level with the 210 member clubs. The local Gold ADDY winners proceed to 15 district competitions, with those gold ADDY winners proceeding to the national competition.
This is the first year Erwin-Penland achieved the district ADDY Best of Show award, and the agency also received the most gold and silver honors in the company’s almost 20 year history.
“We’ve definitely upped the ante when it comes to our creative output over the past year,” said Andy Mendelsohn, executive creative director for Erwin-Penland. “To achieve the ADDY Best of Show at the district level is a huge milestone for us, one we’re proud to accept on behalf of all of the talented team members working behind the scenes at EP.”
Erwin-Penland’s Best of Show campaign depicted Milliken & Co.’s FXC, a patented automotive stain resistant upholstery. The creative work, which also won the Best of Show in the print category, included a brochure depicting various environmental “elements” that are no match for the FXC material. FXC can currently be found in Honda Element vehicles.
The district ADDY competition received a total of 575 entries from 20 ad clubs across North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. Greenville firms, including Erwin-Penland, brought home 30 percent of the total gold and silver awards. Each of the gold winners will be automatically forwarded to the national ADDY competition, to be judged in late April. Winners will be recognized at the national ADDY gala on June 11 in San Francisco, in conjunction with the annual AAF national conference.
